Gillian Smallwood has been the Store Manager at Winning Appliances for seven years, a job she truly enjoys due to the close-knit family atmosphere within the store and the satisfaction that comes from helping customers on a daily basis. "I love growing a business and doing so surrounded by the most amazing men and women, and being able to pass that on to our customers - (it gives me) satisfaction beyond words," says Gillian.

When choosing an appliance, it's important to bear in mind that it's a practical purchase, so getting something that suits your precise needs and requirements is paramount. Gillian explains: "We as buyers get caught up in the excitement - but compulsive buying can have its ramifications! The appliance must suit your needs (to ensure it) will be used to its full potential, and to bring joy and practicality to the home."

Gillian's favourite appliance is the steam oven because it can be used to create meals that are nutritionally rich yet also delicious. "Love them! Everyone should have one - they're the most versatile appliance. (They're great for anything) from cooking veggies, pasta, and rice, to reheating, defrosting, making jam and preserves, sterilising babies bottles - the list goes on." In particular, Gillian recommends the ScholtÈs MultiPLO Steam Oven which steams, boils, roasts, deep fries, and slow cooks all in the one appliance.

It's the local community that Gillian lists as her favourite thing about living and working in Newcastle: "Newcastle has so much to offer. It has grown and developed in the past 10 years - from a Steel Town shrouded in dust and smog, to a beautiful town with a stunning harbour and the most beautiful beaches. We have major surf events held here, as well as festivals, marathons, and a haven of resorts and world class dining. But the number one reason why I love Newcastle is the people - they're so humble, generous and fun-loving - there's no place like home."

Gillian describes the experience of working for Winning Appliances as "coming home every day at 8am - I'm surrounded by family all day! We have so much fun and we rely on each other - together we make a difference - having that bond within our stores, but those bonds stretch out to all the stores. We all know that we can call and count on each other for help and for a laugh which we do each and every day!"
